Historic Royal Palaces , which as you may know is a charity who manage the Tower of London, amongst other unoccupied Royal Palaces, have asked me to let all Members of Parliament know of the many events they are holding throughout the year which might be of interest to you. Historic Royal Palaces and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee:
- The newly refurbished Jewel House at the Tower of London will be re-opened after substantial improvements on Thursday, 29th March.
- The Tower of London is also taking part in the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods Project which aims to plant 1 million trees throughout the UK. The Tower’s Yeoman Warders will assist in a tree planting ceremony.
- Kensington Palace re-opens to the public on Monday, 26th March after a major £12 million transformation. To celebrate the Jubilee, Kensington Palace will host a temporary exhibition exploring the Diamond Jubilee in 1897 of the only other UK monarch to reach this milestone: Queen Victoria. The exhibition opens on Thursday, 24th May.
Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend:
- Hampton Court Palace will be celebrating the Jubilee throughout the extended bank holiday weekend in June, with a 1950s themed party and free entrance to the gardens on Saturday, 2nd June.
- On Monday, 4th June, the Tower of London will host one of the thousands of Jubilee Beacons which are to be lit around the UK as part of the official celebrations.
